In Virginia, first offense DUI, reckless driving and driving on a suspended or revoked license are each class one misdemeanors and carry maximum penalties of 12 months jail, a $2,500 fine and license suspension. In Virginia any speed 20 mph over the posted speed limit or any speed over 80 mph in any speed zone may be charged as reckless driving. Reckless driving by speeding alone is also a class one misdemeanor.

If you or a loved one has been charged with an offense that carries jail time, heavy fines and driver's license suspension, you have the right to retain an experienced Norfolk area traffic lawyer who knows the law and how to protect your legal interests. Not every offense that carries jail time should result in a sentence of jail time.
